5:35am to 7:29am, EST
The day gets slowly started, the darkness is so careful.
Nerves rattle the memories left on the nightstand,
so many dusty water glasses.
Challenge breakfast with a bowl of pasta,
give the eggs a guilty glance in their carton.
Michigan gently prods the sun from her hiding place
she teeters westward, hears it's warmer there
wants to see all that lusty summer skin for herself.
The morning is modest, wraps her towel across her breast in an empty house,
doesn't look at her mouth too long in the mirror.
Heavy gait wakes the neighbors down stairs,
she doesn't know where she's put her keys.
On the stoop she shields her eyes,
stays herself for the increasingly naked approach of noon.
